Sonya Meyer

Managing Director and Co-Founder

I’m Sonya Meyer, co-founder and the heart behind Biomedical Devices Australia. But before I dive into the professional side of things, let me share a little story with you.

It's about how love can surprise you. When I first met Bruce, my now-husband and business partner, our story didn't start with love at first sight. Far from it! We both were involved with St John Ambulance in Whyalla, South Australia - I was in my late teens, and Bruce was in his early twenties. Initially, I really wasn’t his biggest fan; I saw him as a bit of a tool, admittedly a bit full of himself. I even made it a point to leave the room if he walked in! Funny, isn't it? Because here we are, nearly 40 years later, still together, stronger than ever, running a business, and raising a beautiful family.

Now, professionally speaking, I come from a nursing background, holding a Bachelor's and a Graduate Diploma in Clinical Practice, and I’ve spent years in the medical devices sector, specializing in continence management. My journey has taken me from being a national clinical educator for top global brands in Australia to where I am today.

This year is particularly exciting for us. We're introducing innovative products aimed at making life a bit easier for families. There's the Oopsie Heroes Plus bedwetting alarm system and the Oopsie Heroes Toilet Trainer, designed to support parents and kids through the bedwetting phase. And for the ladies, we're launching Carin a new brand of washable period underwear – blending comfort and style, with convenience.

So, from a reluctant start to a journey filled with love, family, and innovation, Bruce and I are here to offer solutions that make a real difference in your everyday lives.

Bruce Meyer

Co-Founder, Director, Husband and Cat Wrangler

I'm Bruce, and the 'other half' of the partnership behind Biomedical Devices Australia. I used to be a Ambulance Officer working with St John Air Ambulance in South Australia, before I jumped into the world of IT.

But you know what really gets me going? Helping people of all ages with continence issues. We're all about improving lives here!

Outside of work, I'm a big fan of outdoor adventures like outback photography, four-wheel driving, and even a bit of gold prospecting. It's all about having a good time! I'm also a beekeeper, and love working with nature and those incredible little creatures.

Oh, and you might catch me wearing one of my many TradeMutt "Conversation Starter" shirts like this one in my photo. You see, I'm not just a business guy.  I'm a qualified mental health first aider and a real advocate for men's mental health. You'll often find me actively involved in community initiatives like the Mr. Perfect BBQs, TradeMutt, and their TIACS Organization.

Running our business with all the moving pieces, sometimes feels like trying to herd cats, but we make it work. And when I'm not doing that, I'm a proud 'Pa' to my two grandsons and a loving Dad to my three grown-up kids.

So, that's a bit about me – friendly, down-to-earth, and always up for a chat!
